Big John Bates: Noirchestra creates a dramatic, soulful tapestry with a live show that evokes a post-rock’n’roll Cirque de Soleil.

Their newest LP, From the Bestiary to the Leathering Room (on Germany’s Rookie Records), is the heart of the band’s performance and its thick white vinyl is covered with the intoxicating art of Santiago Caruso. The rustic lyrics embroider a midnight path with themes of hope, belief and despair while it has been said their “unorthodox, intriguing style” might even “summon demons from under the coffee table.” When Big John’s leathered baritone melds with Bones’ “infernal fusion of Patti Smith & Siouxsie Sioux” they will bring you to a new and intoxicating dimension.

The album was recorded on board their boat Caleuche in the Vancouver harbor and mixed by David Carswell (New Pornographers, Teagan & Sara). Both of the Noirchestra’s first recordings LP (Battered Bones) and EP (Headless Fowl) have the sonic fingerprints of Big Bad Bob Ferbrache, creator of the Denver sound (16 Horsepower, Slim Cessna).

The BJB band is still on the road supporting this release with a final tour leg in Europe Nov-Dec 2016, headlining club dates and festivals. Since their first epic western post-rock single “Amerkin” was featured on soundtracks in 2010 the group has released one 12″ EP, two 7″ singles and two CD/LP’s on Rookie Records (DE) / Frontman Records (CA) with Alternative Tentacles distribution in USA. They have brought their sound to festivals as varied as Shambhala (EDM), Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Halifax Pop Explosion and many others. Since then Bates has toured and performed with notables such as Murder by Death Legendary Shack Shakers, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club and the Real Mackenzies.

“Headless Fowl is extremely cool”
